A playful take on kombucha.

BUCHI is a vibrant kombucha brand created to make fermented tea feel more playful, expressive, and approachable. Moving away from the minimal and wellness-heavy aesthetic often associated with kombucha, BUCHI uses bold colours, energetic typography, and fruit-inspired flavours to create a brand experience that feels youthful and full of personality.

From Idea to Identity

The process started with researching kombucha brands, packaging styles, target audiences, and how different beverages use colour and typography to communicate personality. From there, I explored different brand names, logo directions, colour combinations, and label compositions before developing BUCHI into the final identity. The visual direction grew around playful typography, bright colours, organic shapes, and fruit-inspired elements that connected the personality of the brand back to the drink.

One Brand, Four Personalities

Once the visual identity was established, I developed a packaging system across four flavours: Watermelon Lime Pop, Mango Passion, Raspberry Peach Twist, and Pineapple Ginger Zing. Each flavour was given its own colour palette and personality while keeping the logo, label structure, typography, and overall visual language consistent. I also developed the label dieline, bottle cap details, product information, and final bottle mockups to see how the identity would work as a complete product range.

Beyond the Bottle

The final part of the project was taking BUCHI beyond packaging and translating the same identity into editorial design. I experimented with oversized typography, product photography, hand-drawn details, playful compositions, and flavour storytelling to create magazine spreads that still felt unmistakably BUCHI. This helped me explore how one visual identity can stay consistent while adapting across completely different formats.
